Journal History

The history of the Scientific Bulletin of The MSTUCA is linked to the foundation of the Moscow Institute of Civil Aviation Engineers (MICAE) in 1971. From 1993 the organization changed it’s name to Moscow State Technological University of Civil Aviation (MSTU CA), and the idea of creating the journal appeared in this University.

Research on development issues of civil aviation is one of the priorities of staff and students of the University. MICAE carried out fundamental and applied research  on safety issues, maintenance and repair of aircraft, radar and air traffic control, the commercial exploitation of air transport, air transport management, etc. Since 1975, the Institute began publishing collections of scientific works of its scholars. Similar collections were published at this time in The Kiev Institute of Civil Aviation Engineers, the Riga Institute of Civil Aviation Engineers and the Civil Aviation Academy.  The first collection of The MICAE was "Applied Mechanics and Mechanics of Aviation Materials" and "Efficiency and optimization of systems and processes in Civil Aviation."

In the following years, the number of collections had been increased and their subject had been broadened. In the mid-90s it had been coming out five thematic collections a year:

• «The problems of technical operation in aviation and flight-navigation complexes" (editor - Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor V. Vorobiev);

• «Problems of improvement of electronic systems of Civil Aviation and the organization of their maintenance" (editor - Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor A. Kozlov);

• «News and problems of technical operation of aircraft systems" (editor - Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor N. Smirnov);

• «Theory and practice of remote radio sounding" (editor - Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor A. Logvin);

• «Improving aircraft equipment" (editor - Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor V. Kriventsev).

Due to the high theoretical and practical level, these collections had quickly gained a great reputation and the geography of their authors had expanded. By the mid-80s MICAE became a recognized scientific center. At the Institute large scientific schools were formed, which explored issues of civil aviation and related industries. Therefore in the next decade the volume and the number of research projects carried out by the Institute staff dramatically increased. These scientific collections had a small volume and circulation and unfortunately, all research results of the Institute couldn’t have been published. Thus, there has become a necessity to create journal on a regular publishing base. This decision was taken in 1998. Scientific Bulletin of The MSTUCA had become the only regular scientific publication in the country, in which studies in the civil aviation industry were published. At that time in Russia there were only four scientific journals on technical science in aviation, which were allowed to publish the results of research to obtain academic degrees. In the early 2000’s Scientific Bulletin of The MSTUCA began to be published twice a month. Each issue has its own theme. The most important topics of the journal were:

  • Avionics and Electrical Engineering;
  • Aeromechanics, Strength, Continuing Airworthiness of Aircraft;
  • Safety;
  • Computer Science. Applied Mathematics;
  • History, Philosophy, Sociology;
  • Mathematics and Physics;
  • International Activities of Universities;
  • Management, Economics, Finance;
  • Navigation and Air Traffic Control;
  • Radio Physics and Radio Engineering;
  • Student's Science;
  • Operation of Air Transport and Repair of Aircraft.

The growing popularity of the journal among colleagues from near and far abroad has enhanced new audience. Foreign researchers began publishing in the journal. The editorial board has included respected members of the academic community - recognized scientists in the field of aviation and aerospace research from Spain, China, Uzbekistan and The Czech Republic.

Now the main topics of the journal are:

  • Machine Building and Engineering;
  • Aviation, Rocket and Space Technology;
  • Radio Engineering and Communication;
  • Computer Science, Computer Facilities and Management;
  • Transport.

In 2016 English-language name of the journal was registered as «Civil Aviation High TECHNOLOGY» and numbering style has been changed in accordance with international standards. Nearly two decades Scientific Bulletin MSTUCA remains the leading scientific publication in the industry, reflecting the results of original theoretical and experimental research. Open access policy of the journal contributes to the quality of research, its popularization and reflects the domestic and foreign research experience.

Fees for publishing articles by postgraduates are not charged.
